Instead....
Think about this:
Why does Father Karl come into the book, how does he relate back to Sister James, why is it important that he just nearly survives the concentration camps, and has Toby finally confessed--if so, how?
Tomorrow can be great--so my question is, will it?
Best,

We were recently introduced to Father Karl. He entered Toby's life because Rosemary and the Bolgers believed Toby needed some extra guidance in his life! So Father Karl simply tells Toby what he did was wrong and asks him what he truly wants in life. He asks him if he sees what his actions are doing to the people around him. In a lot of ways Father Karl is similar to sister James, because they both want to help Toby. However no matter how hard they try to break through the barrier or "door" Toby has formed, he just wont let them in! The ways in which they both try to help him are through confession. They both want him to realize and be able to forgive himself and gain redemption. I do believe that Toby has confessed though. Even though he didn't apoliogize to the Welches, he still feels bad and keeps going back to their farm and that moment in which he saw the boys working. The reason why he won't say sorry is because he is tired of just saying a simple sorry or lieing and quickly running away. It seems like before he says sorry to the Welches he needs to be able to say sorry to himself and forgive himself! Yet even though Toby may realize this, and realize he made a mistake I don't think he is strong enough to forgive himself. That is why Father Karl plays a vital role. He barely survived a concentration camp, and lost both of his parents to one. He has had so much pain and loss, yet was still able to survive. So he shows Toby that you can still get through the toughest moments even if it may look like there is no way out. Toby needs this because before in his life he had people who gave him this idea that the only way to survive and stay on top was to be mean, tough, and pick on people who you have an advantage over. Examples of these people are Terry silver, Terry Taylor and Mr. Mitchel.
*side thought- Maybe the reason the boys egged the car from such a high building where they couldn't be seen, was because they wanted to have the advantage. This shows that they aren't really brave and haven't earned anything. Maybe the powerful and strong one is really Father Karl because, "he had come by his faith the hard way"(250).
Ms. Hayden--
All I have is one word: "wow."
That post, that thought, was simply amazing, and I think you are so so right about this.
I look forward to hearing more tomorrow in class.
Great, simply great,
